Walk for Home London

My walk for home

Everyday, I walk from the station to work, wearing nice clean clothes, drinking a take away coffee, probably feeling annoyed my clean hair I tried to blow dry is frazzled and as big as 3 people’s hair already. I’ll consider going to the hairdressers soon to tame the untameable. The hairdresser will probably suggest I try a new taming serum, and I’ll probably agree to the £20 extra.

I have some leftovers for lunch In my bag, that by 12 I’ll decide I don’t feel like and choose to spend £10 on something I do. I’ll eat my lunch and consider another holiday, I’m thinking better weather but do I want an action holiday or a lazy holiday?

Everyday when I get home from work, I have a hot shower I don’t think about, I get in comfortable clothes, prepare for a night in a comfortable bed. Maybe I’ll read, maybe I’ll scroll on my phone and end up purchasing another pair of trainers (can justify trainers, as they are for SPORT, which is self improvement). If I’m cold, there’s a cupboard full of blankets.  If I’m hungry, there’s a fridge full of food.

Everyday, working in interiors, I have the privilege of helping create beautiful homes. At some point in the day, I may rationalise myself out of thinking about all the space and things and homes I don’t have.

The thing that does book end my day, is walking by people sat at our ankles, heads lowered and hair unruly. Maybe holding a sign, maybe holding a cup. People like myself rushing by, preoccupied by something. In my case, maybe the client didn’t like some furniture or maybe I’m thinking about a spreadsheet filled with numbers for a home filled with things. I’m aware of the person at my ankles, with no home and no things, but I rarely help. When the person comes up to me on the train, I’ll probably bring a book to my face or shake my head. But I do want to help.

Shelter works tirelessly to defend the right to a safe home and to support people through some of the toughest moments of their lives.

After work on December 8th, I’m walking through central London to raise money for them. I hope to help just a little bit, finding some appreciation for what I have and supporting the charity.

If you can, please support my fundraising or share this page—it really means a lot.
